The largest French roadside restaurant will close its doors in mid-August.

Woe to the owners of this establishment, born in 1937.
It’s noon, so there’s not a second to lose in the biggest roadside restaurant in France and one of the biggest in Europe. Famous stage for participants of the A20 motorway, created since 1937 in Déolles (Indre), near Châteauroux. “It’s a habit to leave and come back”evidenced by the lady in the TF1 report at the head of this article. “Coming from Paris or leaving for Paris, we always stay at L’Escale”, she says. But for the first time in August, the institution will be closed for two weeks, which will surprise its regular visitors. “This is an institution. We spent the summer here, so it’s true that it’s weird.”one of them says.

However, there is no shortage of work: 600 caps of homemade dishes are served every day. Requires a lot of staff for service, both in the dining room and in the kitchen. But for two years there have been no seasonal workers. Thus, the closure is the only solution to give leave to 56 employees of the restaurant. Customers will have to adapt, especially truck drivers. “It’s a disadvantage, and besides, there are fewer and fewer of them on the road”, one of them reacts. The restaurant has already had to reduce its opening hours at night and close on Sunday evenings, always for the same reason: lack of staff.
