The National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) announced on Wednesday it was suspending the marketing of Joëlle Ciocco brand cosmetic products until the rules are met. After an inspection carried out in June 2022 at the production site of the Joëlle Ciocco brand in Conflans-Saint-Honorine (Yvelines), as well as at the head office in Paris, ANSM investigators found “that Capital Joëlle Ciocco did not comply with the rules for cosmetic products”the agency explains.
betamethasone questionable
Laboratory studies have also shown that “Some products prepared specifically for customers contained the corticosteroid betamethasone, which is used as part of drugs and can only be used for medical purposes”, adds ANSM in a press release. Betamethasone is a corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory properties. It can be prescribed to treat certain dermatological conditions, such as eczema, but should not be applied to the face without a doctor’s prescription. This can lead to undesirable effects that should be especially feared with long-term use, such as the risk of thinning and fragility of the skin, acne flare-ups or depigmentation.
“Consequently, we are suspending the production, marketing, advertising, distribution and use of Joëlle Ciocco Paris brand cosmetic products.”belonging “cosmetic products specially developed by Capital Joëlle Ciocco”and “specially prepared foods containing betamethasone”, explains ANSM. The agency has “asked the company to withdraw all of its products from sale.”
- Hygiene, cosmetics… The reusable boom
“Major sections of the regulations applicable to cosmetic products were not followed”Dominique Labbé, deputy director of the ANSM Inspection Department, told AFP, “therefore, the decision was made to put the action on hold until it is done.” Agreement “is an achievable goal for a firm that can fill its gaps”, she emphasizes, specifying that the decision to suspend sales of the brand’s cosmetic products “infrequently”.
Health authorities recommend “no longer use” Purchase Joëlle Ciocco products and consult your doctor in case of adverse effects.
