Spain: Actress Ana Obregon caused controversy by becoming a mother with a GPA at 68.

This is a scandalous birth. Spanish actress Ana Obregon announced this Thursday, March 30, that she has become the mother of a little girl, born through gestational surrogacy (GPA). Happy news for the Iberian star who lost her first son, Alex Lekio, who died in 2020 at the age of 27 from cancer.

The only concern is that surrogacy is banned in Spain, the announcement of this new motherhood has angered public opinion as well as the political class. The Spanish left-wing government, which nevertheless claims to be feminist, has sharply criticized this method. “This is an illegal practice in Spain that is legally recognized as a form of violence against women.”This was stated to the press in the corridors of parliament by the Minister for Equality Irene Montero, a member of the formation of the radical left Podemos, according to AFP.

“Let’s not forget the reality of these unreliable women (carrying a child for someone else) who are in danger of poverty.”she added. These criticisms came after Wednesday’s front-page publication in People magazine. Hello ! photos of a TV star leaving a hospital in Miami (USA) with a little girl in her arms.

Ana Obregon then confirmed the information on her Instagram account. “A light full of love entered my darkness. I will never be alone again. I started living again”— wrote the artist who caused the scandal.

The image seems intimidating to me. It’s called belly rent, not surrogacy

Pilar Alegria

“The image seems to me Dante”, condemned the Minister of Education and the representative of the Socialist Party, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Pilar Alegria. “It’s called a belly for rent, not surrogacyshe added. The right, on the other hand, has shown itself open to debate. The subject should be approached through “a deep and serene debate because it touches on many moral, ethical and religious issues” said Kuka Gamarra, number two in the People’s Party (PP), a formation for which any reward in exchange for GPA, on the other hand, is a red line.

Surrogacy, both paid and free, is illegal in Spain. On the other hand, the legislation of the country allows the registration of children born under surrogacy abroad in the Spanish civil registry, provided that they represent “judgment dictated by a competent court” in the respective country and establishing paternity.

Surrogacy is included in a law passed in February by the Spanish Parliament among “Violence against women”. This law also prohibited any advertising of surrogacy by “intermediary agencies”. For her part, Ana Obregon did not respond to all these disputes.
