ENT cancer: French vaccine to prevent relapse offers hope

This is one of the achievements announced over the weekend in the face of cancer. The French laboratory Transgene has recorded convincing results after therapeutic trials conducted by the Curie Institute of a vaccine to prevent the recurrence of cancer that affects the ENT area. In addition to being the world’s first procedure, it is unique due to its individual formula for each patient. How ? Thanks to the removal of a piece of the tumor during the operation, which is then analyzed in order to use artificial intelligence to select the most risky mutations in cancer cells.

Vaccine that ‘adapts even to the immune system’

“You have to find this needle in this haystack: top 30 mutations out of 3000, and this is done with the help of artificial intelligence that has learned from many pre-existing patients and learns from every new patient we treat.” explained Hedy Ben Brahim, president of Transgene, BFM TV. “We’re going to produce a therapeutic vaccine that will respond to each patient’s tumor characteristics and even adapt to each patient’s immune system,” further states that the latter information about France about this form of vaccine in full development.

In particular, none of the 16 treated patients had a relapse. If the second phase of testing is planned for several months, then it will take several years before a possible release to the market.
