Should we be concerned about such an image? Are there serious disorders in the blood of vaccinated people? To find out, TF1info turned to Dr. Pascal Richard, Medical Director of the French Blood Institute (EFS). From the very beginning, she emphasizes that “completely normal”. When the blood is drawn “two phenomena are activated: coagulation if no anticoagulant is added, and also decantation.” OUR “slightly yellow liquid that can be seen at the top of the image”, thus corresponding to plasma. At the bottom of the tube are the cells. “The most visible are red blood cells”clarifies the specialist whose appearance “more or less dark depending on the person.”
If we look at the image in more detail, we can see the presence of an additional layer. “Detail with threads”notes Pascal Richard, “this is a buffy coat, that is, leukocytes and more or less clotted platelets”. There is nothing surprising in noting a fairly clear separation of these three layers, on the contrary. This is a normal process. Once the blood has been collected, this anticipated decantation allows (with or without the additional use of centrifugation) the extraction of the various blood products needed to treat patients.
“Donors are not asked about vaccination status”
“We do not see the difference between the blood of a vaccinated person or not”decides the medical director of EFS, who also urges us not to be surprised by the possible differences in color between the collected blood samples. “We have always observed the variability in the color of blood, it depends on the amount of oxygen and hemoglobin, which will vary the red color of the blood.”
Blood decantation interferes with certain people’s samples in as little as an hour and allows healthcare professionals to extract three very different blood products. First, erythrocytes “in the majority and which we need the most, which are used to transport oxygen as well as blood platelets”. This “used for coagulation in people who do not have it, in particular due to their disease (leukemia, certain chemotherapy, and also to avoid hemorrhagic complications)”. Finally, the plasma is recovered, serving among other things “to create drugs that help produce immunoglobulins.” This is done to treat immunocompromised patients or to treat inflammatory diseases. This variety of recovered blood products leads the EFS spokesperson to say that with “One donation saves three lives”.
