Seasonal allergies: the most effective treatments

The month of June marks the return of grass pollen. Beautiful sunny days, conducive to the release and dispersion of pollen in the air. Only rain or a thunderstorm can calm these allergen spikes down to the ground. According to the Ministry of Solidarity and Health, in France, almost 30% of adults and 20% of children over the age of nine suffer from seasonal allergies. Allergen avoidance is possible in some cases. But the most effective way to permanently get rid of pollen allergy is desensitization. This specific immunotherapy consists in exposing a person to an allergen for several years in progressive doses. This action stimulates the immune system and makes the person tolerant to the substance. Exposure can be carried out subcutaneously or sublingually on the recommendation of an allergist. This method is especially effective for pollen. The effect appears after a few months.

For symptoms that affect the nose, there are several possibilities. An allergic person can use a nasal spray containing corticosteroids, which is usually very effective. In addition, she may take an antihistamine. You can combine two products at the same time for more effective action.

In terms of eye symptoms, the use of artificial tears can reduce the irritation associated with allergies. There are also eye drops containing antihistamines available without a prescription. For severe symptoms, eye drops containing prescription corticosteroids may be used. According to the MSD Guidelines, oral antihistamines can also be very helpful, especially when the throat, ears, or nose are affected by allergies.

Seasonal Allergies: Natural Treatments

According to the Pasteur Institute, there are natural treatments. Many herbs can help relieve allergies, such as tarragon, which has anti-allergic properties. Thyme is known to relieve the airways. Lavender essential oil would be very effective in reducing sneezing attacks. Against the common cold, the institute recommends nettle or an infusion of elderberry and apple cider vinegar.
