Dangerous for pregnant women
Listeriosis, caused by the bacterium Listeria Monocytogenes, is the second leading cause of death from food poisoning, with several dozen deaths each year in France. The incubation period is usually one or two weeks, but can last up to almost three months, and pregnant women are particularly at risk as the risk of developing this infection, which is treated with antibiotics, is twenty times higher. The infection can be dangerous for the unborn child, increasing the risk of abortion or premature birth.
In the case of Jay & Joy, four of the five cases identified were in a pregnant woman who gave birth prematurely due to listeriosis. “People who have consumed the products indicated in the warning and who develop a fever isolated or accompanied by headaches and digestive disorders – nausea, vomiting and diarrhea within 10 days to 2 months after consuming the product – are invited to consult with their doctor, informing him about this risky eating, concludes SRS.
