Immigration: More than two-thirds of French people are concerned, according to survey

69% of French people say they are worried about immigration, according to a BVA Opinion poll for RTL conducted May 24-25. Even though the topic only ranks sixth on their priorities (24%), far behind purchasing power (56%), health (38%) and safety (32%), 68% of respondents support a bill on executive-led immigration.

Two-thirds (67%) also believe that “too many immigrants” in France and only 43% believe that immigration “Chance for France”. However, the majority (60%) admit that “immigrants are victims of discrimination”.

90% for the expulsion of convicted foreigners

In particular, the majority of respondents support the measures proposed by the government. Nine out of ten French people support the principle of facilitating the expulsion of foreigners convicted of crimes or misdemeanors punishable by imprisonment of 10 years or more. While Les Républicains are launching an offensive on the subject, 73% of respondents say they are in favor of organizing a referendum, and 66% want to tighten conditions for family reunification.

But 68% also say they are in favor of, as the government wants, the legalization of illegal workers in sectors under pressure. Thus, 77% support the creation of a special residence permit for medical and pharmaceutical specialties educated outside the EU.

Respondents are also suspicious of the immigration of politicians, with the most trusted by the RL (36%), followed by the LR (30%) and the government (28%).
