Cop detained in Marseille: “Justice must calmly do its job,” according to Bourne

After a controversy over the jailing of a policeman in Marseille, the prime minister insisted on Tuesday that “justice must quietly do its job.”

Elizabeth Bourne also denies any disagreement on this issue between Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin and President Emmanuel Macron.

She hasn’t reacted yet, she did it from Le Havre. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Elizabeth Bourne insisted on “the need for fairness in order to be able to do one’s job in peace” after controversy over the detention of a police officer in Marseille. “Let’s both be mindful of the complexity of the police mission – and I think it’s important to give them credit for the work, the exceptional dedication they showed during the urban violence – and on top of that, there’s justice that needs to be able to do its job, that’s what she does.”she explained, along with the former head of government and mayor of Le Havre, Edouard Philippe.

She also denied any disagreement on this issue between Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin and Emmanuel Macron. “Everyone says the same thing”she assured.

“It’s a joke”PS boss Olivier Fauré responded on Twitter. “Justice must be able to do its job in peace.” How, when after two days there is still no one to “comment” and sanction the police hierarchy, which intends to free itself from republican principles?”he asked, referring to remarks by the head of state, who on Monday, during an interview broadcast on TF1 and France 2, declined to comment on statements by police director general Frédéric Waux, who said he was shocked by the imprisonment of a Marseille BAC agent as part of an investigation into police violence. For Jean-Luc Mélenchon, head of government “gives support to the rebels. Fear is a bad adviser”.
