In the Assembly this afternoon, the calm contrasts with the noise and fury of Thursday. But behind the scenes, the battle for pension reform continues. Renaud Labaye, MP for the National Rally, has just moved a vote of no confidence in his group. Thus, there will be two of them, which will be considered by the Assembly on Monday. This is the National Association and a group of centrist and foreign deputies supported by the left.
Number of votes hard to get
The government can impose a text, but in response, deputies can cancel it. To do this, it will be necessary to take one of two votes of no confidence by an absolute majority, i.e. 287 votes. According to our calculations, if we add 149 deputies from Nüpe, elected representatives of the RN, centrists and unregistered, then there are currently 258.
- Vote of no confidence: a procedure that only succeeded once under the Fifth Republic
Thus, in order to push the government to resign, a reinforcement of at least 29 deputies from the Republic of Lithuania, which is almost half of the group, will be required. The foot calls have already begun. The Republicans are torn apart again. Their boss Eric Ciotti urges not to vote for censorship. And those who were against the reform were divided. Because in the event of censorship, Emmanuel Macron has two options: appoint a new government or dissolve the Assembly.
