The police car, surrounded by demonstrators, must accelerate to escape, as shown in the beginning of the TF1 report at the beginning of this article. In the end, there were no injuries, but there was a lot of tension on the streets of Nantes (Loire-Atlantique). “We tell ourselves Is violence the solution or not?because we get the impression that if it is not there, we are not being heard”summarizes a young protester from Nantes.
Same anger, different strategies
This is the ambiguity of today. Across France, there was general anger over the use of Article 49.3 to pass pension reform in the National Assembly. But the way it is expressed varies greatly from city to city, or sometimes in the same gatherings. Thus, on this Saturday morning, unexpected roadblocks were set up on the ring road of Nantes. Whereas in Brest (Finistère), Vesoul (Haut-Saone) or Le Havre (Seine-Maritime), the marches organized by the trade unions were calm.

In the center of Paris, there was even a moment of panic in the middle of the day, when songs and smoke suddenly invaded the corridors of the underground shopping center Les Halles. The guards were overwhelmed and the merchants had to lower their curtains. In Chartres (Eure-et-Loire) several dozen people blocked the railway lines, and in Lodeve (Hérault) ras-les-bols expressed themselves in the fields of pots.
The day before, in Lyon (Rhone), a group attacked the town hall of the 4ᵉ district. A fire in front of the entrance, forced doors, people searched the offices on the first floor before dispersal – ultra-left activists, according to police. This Saturday evening, the Champs Elysees and the Place de la Concorde were closed to demonstrators, and thousands of people gathered near the Place d’Italie.
