In the context of the political and social crisis, the President of the Republic appeared this Wednesday at 13:00 on the television news TF1 and France 2 to explain himself. But the 20-minute interview didn’t convince the French, according to Harris Interactive-Toluna’s “instant” LCI study.
Counterproductive interference?
Indeed, 70% of the French did not find the president convincing during this interview. 44% even found it “not at all convincing”and 8% said they found it “very convincing”. If the people interviewed disagree about the impact this interview will have on the anti-pension reform mobilization movement, they are fairly unanimous that it will fail to calm the movement.
While Emmanuel Macron told his supporters on Tuesday evening that “pacify” AND “listen to anger”, 47% of respondents even believe that this intervention will increase the mobilization against the bill passed in Parliament on Monday. 44% believe that this will not change the demonstrations and strikes, and only 9% of those polled claim that this interview will succeed in reducing the mobilization against pension reform.

This operational study also confirms the still very strong support of the mobilization movement by the French population. Thus, 67% declare support for the movement, 11% are indifferent to it and 22% oppose it. With regard to the use of violence, which was more often manifested at rallies after the application of 49.3 in the National Assembly, 20% express their support, and 80% of those surveyed disapprove of fires, damage to street furniture or banks, and clashes between demonstrators and police.
