Paris 2024 values messenger. One year and one day before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, the Olympic and Paralympic relay torch was unveiled on Tuesday, July 25, during a press conference at the Paris 2024 headquarters in Saint-Denis. Designed by French designer Mathieu Lehanner, it will be used to transport the flame that will burn from Olympia to Paris via Marseille from 16 April to 26 July 2024, the day the big cauldron of the Paris edition is lit.
The object, 70 cm long and weighing 1.5 kg, is made of champagne-coloured steel produced, cast and machined by ArcelorMittal in its French factories. Traditionally flared in shape, this torch is paired with a polished steel bottom and a sandblasted steel top, tightened, slightly elongated, finished with a “high tech” finish.

“For the first time in its history, it is absolutely symmetrical”its creator explained that it allows “highlight the flame”. “Many times when you talk to people, they think of the Olympic rings and the torch”supported the President of the Organizing Committee of Paris 2024 (Cojop) Tony Estanguet.
“Equality, Water and Peace”
To reflect the next Games, Mathieu Lehanner drew inspiration from the three markers of Paris 2024: equality, water and appeasement. Its perfect symmetry promotes equality, giving an equal footing to the Olympic and Paralympic Games, where for the first time as many women as men will compete.
Water across the Seine, the basis of the Parisian edition, inspired the creation of wave, relief and vibration effects that reproduce the waves and movements of water, as well as the reflections of light on its surface. With its gentle curves and curves, the environmentally friendly torch conveys a message of peace, generosity and brotherhood, the values of Olympism.
