He perceives his happiness only in short steps, challenging the flow of time, where, in the end, only the pleasure of running matters. This is a 93-year-old man with baby eyes, wearing sneakers on his feet, who hosts our team at his home in Salers, Cantal. Charlie Bankarelle was born in August 1929 but started running late, at the age of over 50. He ran his first marathon at the age of 70: revelation and immediate pleasure, as he explains in the TF1 report at the beginning of this article.

He would be unhappy if he had to sit in a chair all day.

At home, memories of his exploits are everywhere. He has neither pride nor racing records, but he loves sports and effort, which has become a philosophy of life. This Kantalou was a bus driver and later owner of a hotel in Saler, along with Denise, his wife and his first supporter. “He must move”she smiles, “He would be unhappy if he had to sit in a chair all day”. Charlie takes us to his basement where he has set up a real gym with an exercise bike and dumbbells. He maintains his form every day.

Charlie does not hide his great excitement in the face of this support from everywhere. Running nearly 500km a month and over 2,000km cycling, Charlie is not out of his 11th run in the Paris Marathon: on April 2nd he will run not only for himself, but for the whole family. to which he promised to go to the end.
