“About 4:20 p.m. (17:20 in Paris)the car crashed into the gates of Downing Street in Whitehall”the avenue facing Downing Street. “Armed police detained a man at the scene on suspicion of criminal mischief and dangerous driving.”says the press release, which also states that there were no casualties. “Investigations are underway to establish what happened”— added to the London police.

These gates, blocking access to the famous street, were installed in 1989 for security reasons.
