This Thursday, May 25, the Portuguese police put an end to excavations that had been carried out since Tuesday near a lake in southern Portugal. This new study was carried out at the request of the German authorities as part of the investigation into the disappearance of little Madeleine McCann in 2007.
The police were looking for a pink blanket or pajamas
The new excavations were carried out precisely on the dry bank of the Arade reservoir, in Silves, an Algarve town about fifty kilometers from Praia da Luz, where the girl lived with her parents when she went missing in 2007. Investigators examined the excavations. AFP reports that dogs, a drone and a tracked brush cutter were used in the area. Some areas of the ground were combed with probes, shovels and rakes.
According to local media, since the beginning of the excavation, investigators have collected soil samples and collected several pieces of cloth found at the site. However, according to the local press, shared with AFP, the police were supposed to be looking for the pink blanket or pajamas the little girl was wearing on the evening of her disappearance.

The Judicial Police said in a press release issued by AFP that “The collected material will be handed over to the German authorities”. The latter have said since 2020 that they are convinced that the British girl is dead and suspect a recidivist German sexual aggressor. This man, serving a prison term in Germany for raping a 72-year-old American woman in Portugal in 2005, was identified in 2020 by German investigators as Christian Brückner, a repeat pedophile now 46 years old. several years in the Algarve.
