While the conflict seems to drag on, neither of the two armies appear to be in a position to inflict a decisive defeat on the other, Ukraine is already thinking about its own rebuilding. Several tens of billions of dollars of international assistance have already been allocated (more than 20 billion from the World Bank, 15.6 billion from the IMF). At the same time, Kyiv is using new technologies to speed up the process in some disaster-hit communities. Regularly under fire, even if not in the arena of ground battles like Bakhmut, Mariupol or even Kyiv, Lvov already wants to think what to do next. To do this, a city in the west of the country uses a giant 3D printer. LCI visited one of the construction sites, the construction of a school.
A large school was built in three weeks
A giant robot single-handedly drowns entire layers of concrete walls. Gradually, the 3D printer creates a completely new school. “3D printing technology is very complex. It’s a mixture of materials – to have material – with artificial intelligence, 3D models. All this with software and robotics.”explains Jean-Christophe Bonis, founder of Team4UA, an association behind several projects in support of Ukraine.
Construction should last about three weeks, soon the complex will be able to accommodate a hundred students. “We use 3D printer technology because we can build objects ten times faster”the businessman says. “In a few months, we will also print a bridge in the Kherson region. Thanks to these two pilot projects, we are participating in the reconstruction of the country.”he adds.
This technology needs to be developed, improved and transferred to others.”

For residents and builders, such a process should be democratized in the future, a solution that can be used to get rid of the pain of war. “In general, the process is not complicated, but there are many nuances that need to be studied at least a year in advance. (There are also) various improvement processes, in addition to these, to make it effective”— admits Evgeniy Teupa, project manager. “I think 3D printing has a future in Ukraine. This technology needs to be developed, improved and transferred to others.”, he’s calling. For her part, Lyuba, a primary school teacher, says to herself “I am satisfied with this design, because it is a very fast object, high-quality and progressive”.

One thing is for sure, for Ukrainians such technology allows them to project themselves into the future for a few moments and think about the post-war period.
