The bridge collapsed for the second time in a year. The accident occurred in the state of Bihar in northeast India on Saturday, June 4. The building, entire sections of which collapsed into the Ganges, was the subject of new investigations on Monday when at least one person went missing.
The state government called for an investigation, promising “tough measures”. Indeed, according to reports, the bridge, which was still under construction when it was due in 2019, had already collapsed on April 30, 2022 due to heavy rains and high winds.

“At the beginning of this year, the bridge collapsed once, but no attention was paid to its construction”, – lamented a resident of the region, Rakesh Kumar, quoted by Reuters. The latter reported that he felt strong tremors, reminiscent of “explosion” when the incident happened.
On October 31, a suspension bridge built during the colonial period collapsed in western India after the cables holding it up broke. The tragedy claimed the lives of 137 people.
