After being under pressure for several days, Germany on Tuesday opened the way to allowing allied countries to supply heavy Leopard tanks, which Kyiv insisted on, promising to respond “urgently” to the corresponding request of Poland. In the evening, two German media, a daily Der Spiegel and the NTV news channel even assured that Chancellor Olaf Scholz would give the go-ahead, probably on Wednesday. “Germany sends Leopard tanks to Ukraine”even tweeted the Liberal Democratic Party (FDP), a member of the ruling government coalition.
The German leader, who is due to address the lower house of the German parliament on Wednesday at noon, will also give his approval to countries, including Poland and Finland, that wish to supply Leopard 2 tanks to the Ukrainian authorities.
