La Sila, an immaculate space cut only by an old locomotive, and intertwined roads crossing frozen lakes. The oldest train in Italy, nicknamed “La Vielle Dame”, which we find in the TF1 report at the beginning of this article, has been running there since 1929. Passengers are attracted not by the destination, but by the journey. The train cuts through the mountain to the highest station of the peninsula, at an altitude of 1400 meters above sea level.

According to a study by Italian doctors, the purest air of Europe is breathed at the heights of Sila, in particular, thanks to the vast coniferous forests. The giants’ reserve consists of pine trees that are 400 years old and almost 50 meters high. These trees, long used for wood or sap, became inviolable in 1987.
