Capitol attack: Six members of far-right militia indicted

New allegations in the Capitol case. Six members of the U.S. far-right militia, the Oath Keepers, were found guilty on Monday, according to U.S. media reports, on various charges in connection with the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol by Donald Trump supporters.

In this third Oathkeeper trial, considered pivotal in planning the attack, four were found guilty of conspiring to disrupt the work of Congress, punishable by 20 years in prison. Two were convicted on lesser charges. Six people were found guilty of entering the building or its grounds without permission or remaining there.

950 arrests

Since the January 6, 2021, attack, more than 950 supporters of former Republican President Donald Trump have been arrested and charged with undermining American democracy. Among them, only 14 activists from far-right groups — nine members of the Oath Keepers and five of the Proud Boys — have been charged with “sedition,” with the leader facing 20 years in prison for planning to use force to oppose the government.

The first trial ended in late November with a mixed verdict: Oath Keepers founder Stuart Rhodes and a local official were found guilty of sedition, but their three defendants were acquitted on that count.
