A week after a massive tornado that wreaked havoc in the Mississippi (southern US) killing 25 people, Arkansas, in turn, was hit by the same climate event this Friday, March 31st. More than 500 meters wide, this powerful tornado swept away everything in its path, leaving behind a spectacle of desolation with overturned cars, huge uprooted trees, telephone poles broken in two or gutted houses. More than 78,000 people in the state were left without electricity, according to the US website Poweroutage.

Theater collapse in the middle of a concert in Illinois
Further north, in Illinois, a severe storm hit the small town of Belvidere, west of Chicago, causing part of the roof and facade of the Apollo Theater to collapse. According to local media, a heavy metal band was playing a concert. Belvidere fire chief Sean Shadl reported one dead and 28 injured, including five who were hospitalized with serious injuries. According to the local press, more than twenty ambulances were mobilized. Television footage showed injured spectators being evacuated on stretchers, and photos on social media showed a pile of rubble up to the waist and a gaping hole in the roof of the auditorium.
Meanwhile, in neighboring Indiana, two people died as a result of a storm in Sullivan County, WTHI television reported, citing Indiana police. The images, posted on Twitter by WTHI, show toppled telephone poles, destroyed houses and debris on the roads.
